Each and every morning the TODAY SHOW brings millions of viewers to NBC. Adding to this franchise, NBC developed two new shows, LATER TODAY and EARLY TODAY.

EARLY TODAY, a morning stock and business show is produced daily from CNBC. The producers for EARLY TODAY wanted to combine graphic elements from both TODAY and CNBC, but still have an original style for their show.

During the design process, efforts were made to keep CNBC's existing daytime financial plates.	An Over the Shoulder look that combines CNBC's current daytime design with the TODAY SHOW's color scheme.

Another factor taken into the design process was time. EARLY TODAY airs live on NBC the same time as CNBC's regular programming. So CNBC's graphics department has to produce graphics for two shows at the same time. With this in mind, efforts were made to incorporate CNBC's existing elements and designs into EARLY TODAY's graphics package.

About 90% of the design was done on a Macintosh G3 using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects. The 3D flying logo in the open was done using Maya on a SGI. It was then composited over a background on a Quantel Henry. Despite all this technology, the idea for the open all started on paper.
