Each season NBC sends out slides and print pieces hyping its new programming. These pieces would be sent to affiliates and press departments across the country. The problem: cost. Between custom printing, film and shipping, the costs were adding up. The solution: technology. We were able to cut costs and put all the photos on a cross-platform CD-ROM with an interactive presentation including video clips, press releases and bios.
This CD-ROM was promoting NBC's new miniseries THE ODYSSEY as well as a special episode of MAD ABOUT YOU and 3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN.
ODYSSEY PRESS RELEASE Brought
to life by an all-star international cast, Homer's legendary tale about
one hero's journey home translates into an epic miniseries in the tradition
of last season's Gulliver's Travels filled with adventure, deadly creatures,
suspense and romance! In celebrating his single-handedly ending The
Trojan War, the soldier Odysseus (Armand Assante, Gotti, The Mambo Kings),
foolishly taunts the Gods shouting of his own superiority and greatness.
The hero is immediately humbled when the mighty Poseidon banishes him
to the seas, forbidding him to ever return home to his wife and son.
For more than ten years, Odysseus and his crew roam the harsh oceans
protected and guided by the Goddess of Love, Athena (Isabella Rossellini,
Big Night, Crime of the Century). They manage to elude many dangers
and temptations: the Cyclops, Scylla the two-headed dragon, the wrath
of angry Gods, and the sweet-voiced Sirens who lure sailors to their
deaths. Odysseus finds solace in the arms of the beautiful Calypso (Vanessa
Williams, Eraser), who convinces him that he'll never see his wife and
son again. Meanwhile, back in Ithaca, Odysseus' dedicated wife, Penelope
(Greta Scacchi, Emma, Rasputin), fends off would-be suitors, who have
taken over her home and destroyed the peaceful kingdom. As fate would
have it, the Gods intervene once more and Odysseus' final adventure
indeed brings him home to reclaim his mighty kingdom and reunite his
family.
